How to Make Sweet Potato Toast!

When I started my journey, one of the things I found myself missing was bread and not just because I liked bread, but because so many of my favorite foods required it. I wanted to eat hamburgers and sandwiches. I wanted peanut butter and jelly and morning toast.
I didn’t realize just how often I ate foods that used bread or how much I was going to miss it when I cut it out of my diet, but cutting it out was essential. It could no longer be part of my life if I wanted to lose the weight, get healthier and save my own life in the process.
But that doesn’t mean I won’t stop finding ways to enjoy still the foods that I used to love, but in healthier ways that don’t include bread.
For some foods, I just leave the bread out. For others, I choose to use Ezekial bread, but this took a while to warm up to, and it isn’t always easy to find. For some dishes, I replace my bread with lettuce and for others, sweet potato toast.
Yes, sweet potato toast.
This is a great alternative to bread because it is delicious, healthy, and you still get that load of carbs that make you feel good without the harmful consequences.
Here is how to make sweet potato toast. It is so easy and so quick to make. And if you are one to have buttered toast in the morning for breakfast, this makes a great alternative that you don’t have to feel guilty about.
- 1 medium sweet potato
- Slice sweet potato into toast like pieces (about 1/4 inch thick) and add to a toaster.
- Toast your sweet potato TWICE on high! If you need to, toast again until your sweet potato is cooked through and slightly brown.
- Top your toast with your favorite ingredients, like almond butter or avocado.
Simple, right? Try this on your own and let me know how you like it. Also, let me know what your favorite toppings are! I am always looking for new ways to prepare my food and new meals to make.
Because this is so simple to make and because it is also healthy, I will be including it on your Custom Meal Plan as part of your meals, so if you are getting on a meal plan, keep an eye out for it!
Why is the Sweet Potato So Great?
Carbs can be tricky, especially if you are trying to lose weight. This is why knowing which carbs are better for you can make all the difference. When trying to lose weight, the sweet potato is actually one of the best carbs that you can consume because it has a low glycemic index and can help keep you full longer, which will prevent you from over snacking and overeating between meals. This helps you take in fewer calories overall, which is necessary if you are trying to be in a deficit.
With so many different ways to prepare the sweet potato and so many ways to make it taste amazing, this is one carb that I recommend over the typically processed carbs that most people are used to consuming. Trade out your bread and your pasta, two of the most popular processed carbs, and try a little bit of sweet potato instead. You will still get the good feeling that carbs give you, but without all the unhealthy disadvantages.
I asked above for you to let me know what your favorite sweet potato toast toppings were, but I would also love for you to share your favorite way to prepare your sweet potato as well!
