Why the New Year is the Perfect Time to Make the Change

Making a New Year’s resolution to lose weight has almost become a cliché at this point, but don’t let that stop you from taking that step forward and committing to yourself. I know a lot of people make resolutions this time of year, and almost none of us stick to them.

Don’t start the New Year off by just making another resolution, start it off by committing to you and your health. Commit to your family that you will put the work in so you will be around in the years to come.

Before I lost all the weight that I did, I had high blood-pressure, high-cholesterol, and was pre-diabetic. My doctor warned me that if I didn’t make the change, I wasn’t going to make it. I was like a dead man walking and I just couldn’t accept that. I couldn’t accept leaving my kids, and I couldn’t accept the idea of not being around in the coming years. So I committed to myself and my family, and I made the decision that I was going to lose the weight. I wasn’t going just going on a diet to lose a few pounds, I was going to change my life and the way I was living.

The habits I began, which you can follow in my How to Lose Weight: 101 Guide, ended up saving my life.

2018 is a new year, which means whatever you have dealt with in the past, it is time to put behind you. That person you have been up until now, you can begin to let them go and create a new you; someone who is healthier and someone who is dedicated to themselves.

Get Out There and Move

If you are trying to lose weight and are ready to take your first step into a gym, now is the best time to sign up for that gym membership.

Why?

Many gyms know that now is the time that people are going to want to lose weight and are making New Year’s resolutions, and even though you aren’t simply making a resolution that doesn’t matter if you stick to it or not, doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage. Many gyms during this time are offering discount memberships and waiving many of their membership fees, so if you want to sign up, now is the time to save money.

And, if you aren’t ready for the gym, that is ok. I didn’t step foot into a gym until I was 100 lbs lighter and one year into my journey. In the beginning, the gym just isn’t realistic for me. Not only was I not able to use many of the machines, I just didn’t feel confident enough yet. That is why I began to walk to the store every time I needed a meal. Walking was a simple form of exercise that I was able to accomplish and it really helped me lose my first 100 lbs.

If you do choose to go to the gym, or are just ready for that transition, I have some tips to help you be more successful:

  • Make a plan before you get to the gym. Know what you want to accomplish and what exercises to do.
  • Sign up for a group class. This will get you more involved, and you will have other people around to support you.
  • Go with a friend. Having a gym buddy will help keep you accountable for your exercises and make sure you don’t make excuses for skipping your workout. Plus, hanging out with a friend is always more fun than going alone.

Clean Up Your Diet

This year, commit to clean out your cupboard and your diet, making sure you are eating clean. This means no processed foods, but rather real food full of protein and veggies.

You may not find yourself completely making the change overnight, but rather you should start making changes in your diet and lifestyle step-by-step, just the way I did in my How to Lose Weight: 101 Guide.

Put the work in to clean out your kitchen of all the processed junk you may have been eating, and if you are not sure what types of foods you should be eating you can start by downloading my free Approved Foods List, where I show you what foods I eat. This way you can start by sticking to a simple group of foods to create your meals.

Then, once you are ready, you can move onto a Custom Meal Plan where I have my personal nutritionist create a meal plan just for you.

Find Support This Year

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

One of the keys to losing weight is having people around you who will support you all the way, and if you’ve signed up for one Custom Meal Plans, you already have an entire community by your side to hold you accountable and be there for you when times get rough.

I didn’t always have the best support when I was trying to lose weight, and it made a lot of difference. I lost some friends along the way and looking back now, I am ok with that. I needed to lose the weight for my family and me, not my friends.
